Valentines

Image
February is the perfect month to share God's love! And God's love is the perfect Valentine to give! Below are some great tracts to use this time of year! Make up some of these Valentine glow packs and you can share them anywhere you go. Here are a few ideas that you can start with: -- Give one to the store or bank clerk. -- Leave one with a tip. -- Share one with some goodies like bread or muffins or cookies. -- Hand them out when you go to the dentist, orthodontist, or doctor's office. -- Give one when you sell something and send it through the mail or give the item to the person. -- Go door-to-door and offer to pray with people. -- Make up tons of them and go out as a church group handing them to everyone you meet in town.

In the deep chill of January, National Soup Month warms us up with piping hot bowls of comfort! It doesn't matter whether you make homemade soup to share or just buy some cans at the store, your neighbors, shut-ins, or under-the-weather friends will love this gift. Cultivating a Lifestyle of Service

“ The home is the child’s first school, and it is here that the foundation should be laid for a life of service. “ (MH 400) I am so thankful that my parents taught me the joy of serving others. From ingathering as a little child to adopting a home-bound “grandparent” in elementary school to experiencing mission trips in academy, I recall many wonderful instances where my parents helped to lay the foundation for a life of service. We cannot rely on our churches and schools or outreach programs to do this job for our children. We must show them how to live a lifestyle of serving others. Following are five ways to help you get your children excited about service to others! 1. Make serving a priority in your life! Stash a blessing bag in your vehicle to give to the next hungry homeless person you see or invite someone for supper who you know is eating alone tonight. Take soup and bread to someone who is home-bound. You can even find shelters and soup kitchens that will le...

A Heart of Praise

Image
What do you think of when you hear the word gratitude? Maybe you think of thank you cards, Thanksgiving, or just two small words that you prompt your children to say when they receive a gift or some kind deed. The Bible says, “ Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ ” (Ephesians 5:20). This means that our grateful spirit should not just be an infrequent character trait that we pull out for special occasions or the holidays, but a daily spirit of praise. We truly have so much to be thankful for – each and every day. In reality, we do not often live like that. The constant demands, struggles, and worries get us down more often than they lead us to a heart of thankfulness. Or we forget, in the busyness of life, just to pause and give thanks, for all that God has done, and continues to do in our lives. Sometimes it really is a sacrifice to offer praise and thanksgiving. We may not feel like it. We’re struggling. We’re weary. Or ...

Full of Good Works

Image
Some time ago while we were having family worship I came across what is now one of my favorite quotes. We are reading Last Day Events, and there Mrs. White is quoted as saying, "Crowd all the good works you possibly can into this life." —Testimonies for the Church, Vol 5, pg 488 (LDE 76). Isn’t that fantastic? That is what life should be about. Tabitha knew this principle well and it was the theme of her life. In Acts 9:36 it says, “At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.” Tabitha, or Dorcas, was an amazing lady who was always going about doing good. Did you hear what the Bible said about her? Dorcas was “full” of good works and charitable deeds. This means that she (1) intentionally looked for opportunities to do good and (2) this was not an occasional thing. She overflowed with good works. This shows us that she didn’t just do good things when the opportunity a...
